Victorian, circa 1860 Staffordshire figure of a man standing on a platform, working on a knife grinder, which is driven by water flowing underneath. One leg and both arms molded free. Dull gilt base line and decoration to his clothing. Vent hole to reverse. Two small paint losses to the barrel. Slight rubbing to gilt. Kiln effects: craze lines to the base and reverse; stray cobalt glaze to the front; small piece of kiln detritus to his jacket and the barrel. Repairs across grinder in two places; to underside, across back, to neck and through his body. 10.25ins high
