Victorian, circa 1880 Staffordshire figure of a large eagle with outstretched wings, standing on rock work and clutching a child in its talons. Crisp, detailed molding. Bright gilt decoration. Vent hole to reverse. Similar piece illustrated figure 2840, page 233, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding. Good. No cracks. No hairlines. A few small paint losses to the ground. Slight rubbing to gilt. Kiln effect: shrinkage line to both legs of the child. Restored chip to the eagle''s tail. Two restored chips to base edge. Retouching to the ground. 10.5ins high
