Victorian, circa 1860 Staffordshire figure of a boy astride an oversized, recumbent spaniel. Dull gilt decoration. Decorated all round. Painted mark and vent hole to underside. Similar piece illustrated figure 2270, page 152, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding. Generally good. No cracks. No chips. Minor abrasions to boy''s nose, spaniel''s nose and tip of tail. A couple of paint losses to the boy''s sash and spaniel''s left ear and leg. Kiln effects: a piece of kiln grit to lower base edge at reverse. Old restoration to boy''s neck and spaniel''s left leg. Repaired hairline to underside (still slightly visible). Retouching to one claw and spaniel''s left pupil. 6.5ins high, 6.5ins wide
