Victorian, circa 1860 Staffordshire figure of a boy, sat on the back of a black and white Afghan hound. The dog is carrying a flower basket in its mouth. Two legs of the dog are molded free. Feathered markings. Dull gilt decoration and base line. Vent hole to reverse. Similar piece illustrated figure 2235/2236, page 146, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding. Generally good. No hairlines. No chips. Some rubbing to gilt. Two small flakes to dog''s front right paw. Kiln effects: crazing to reverse; craze lines to front; shrinkage line along the mold join to dog''s front, and down back of neck; shrinkage crack below dog''s hind left leg. Repaired shrinkage crack to dog''s hind right leg. Retouching to black enamel. 10.5ins high
