Victorian, circa 1860 Staffordshire figure of William Wallace standing on a gilt titled ''Wallace'' base with his left hand resting on his waist, and holding a sword in his right hand. Dull gilt decoration. Vent hole to underside and reverse. Similar piece illustrated figure 1143, page 312, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 1, by A.& N. Harding. Good. No cracks. Flake to ground between ankles, another to lower lip and some small flakes around the lower base edge. A few paint losses to scarf and one shoe. Some rubbing to gilt. Kiln effects: craze lines to the mold join down one side; overall crazing. Restored chip to reverse of hat. Retouched flakes to front of hat and finger of right hand. Old filled chip to lower base edge at front. 15.75ins high
