Victorian, circa 1892 Staffordshire figure of Tam O''Shanter and his friend Souter Johnnie, based on a poem by Robert Burns. The two men are seated either side of a barrel, Tam holding a cup and Souter a pitcher. Bright gilt decoration, base line and title ''TAM.O.SHANTER.&.SOOTER.JOHNNY''. Vent hole to reverse. Maker''s mark inscribed to underside ''Sampson Smith Longton Staff England 1892''.
