Victorian, circa 1860 Staffordshire figure of Romeo and Juliet, seated beneath an arbor holding hands. One leg and two arms molded free. Shredded clay decoration to ground and arbor. Dull gilt decoration and base line. Vent hole to underside. Similar piece illustrated figure 1076, page 295, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 1, by A.& N. Harding. Good. No hairlines. No flakes. Slight rubbing to gilt. Kiln effects: overall fine crazing which is slightly stained on the reverse; shrinkage crack inside the arbor. Repaired cracks to base front and underside. Repaired crack to Romeo''s left side. Retouching to their hair and Juliet''s shoe. 9.25ins high
