Pre-Victorian, circa 1820 Staffordshire Pearlware figure of Mark Antony modeled in a recumbent pose on a rocky, floral base. He is wearing a chain mail tunic, and is holding his sword underneath him. Decorated all round. Hollow underneath. Based on the play ''Antony and Cleopatra'' by William Shakespeare. It is based on real events of ancient times, a tragedy and also a story of passionate love. It tells the story of an affair between Mark Antony, one of the three who rule Rome after the assassination of Julius Caesar, and Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt. Good. A few small flakes to his toes. Flake to edge of cloak and left index finger. Kiln effect: fine shrinkage line to neck and left leg. Repaired shrinkage crack to reverse of right foot.
