Victorian, circa 1860 Staffordshire figure of Napoleon Bonaparte III and Prince Albert titled ''NAPOLEON . ALBERT'' to the front of the base. Both figures stand either side of a wall with a pile of cannon balls below. They are shaking hands with two flags crossed behind them. Inspired by the alliance between England and France during the Crimean war. Dull gilt decoration. Vent hole to underside. Similar piece illustrated figure 772, page 222, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 1, by A.& N. Harding. Generally good. No restoration. No hairlines. No chips. No flakes. Some paint losses to flags, hair and Napoleon''s eye. Rubbing to gilt. Kiln effects: shrinkage cracks to the underside; two short firing cracks to reverse behind the wall; some cobalt glaze run. 13.75ins high
