Victorian, circa 1860 Staffordshire figure of Louis Antoine Jullien (1812-1860), titled ''JULLIEN'' to the base front. Jullien was a French impresario and conductor who came to England in 1840 after much success in Paris. Depicts him standing on shaped base, his left hand holding an open book upon a music stand. He wears a shirt, bow tie, waistcoat, trousers and a cobalt tail coat. Arms molded free. Dull gilt decoration and title. Vent hole to underside. Similar piece illustrated figure 178P, page 77, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 1, by A.& N. Harding. Good. No cracks. No hairlines. No chips. No paint losses.
