Victorian, circa 1860 Staffordshire titled figure of Giuseppe Garibaldi modeled standing before his horse on an oval naturalistic base. All four legs of the horse and both Giuseppe''s legs and sword are molded free. Dull gilt decoration. Decorated all round. Vent hole to reverse. Similar piece illustrated figure 139p, page 62, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 1, by A.& N. Harding. Good. No hairlines. No chips. A few paint losses to saddle, horse''s tail and Garibaldi''s shirt, sword and hair. Kiln effects: slight staining to horse''s chest and front legs; small shrinkage crack to the underside. Old retouching to hooves which is flaking off. 9ins high
