Victorian, circa 1860 Staffordshire figure of a young boy standing beside a seated, oversized Afghan hound. Dull gilt decoration and base line. Vent hole to reverse. Similar piece illustrated figure 2221, page 143, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding. Generally good. No cracks. No hairlines. Two small flakes to front of base. Slight rubbing to gilt. Kiln effects: some crazing; touch mark to reverse; firing flaw to the dog''s side; piece of kiln detritus to tail. Repair to crack to top of dog''s head running down his back, and shrinkage crack to dog''s neck. Restored chip to tail. Retouched paint losses to shoes, hat and dog''s nose. 14ins high
