Victorian, circa 1880 Pair Staffordshire cockerels/roosters (possibly matched. Gilt almost rubbed off on one) with molded feather details picked out in bright gilt. Combs, wattles and eyes decorated in red enamel, beaks and pupils in black. Bright gilt base line and foliage decoration to the ground. Vent hole to reverse. Similar pair illustrated figure 2822/2823, page 230, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding. Generally good. Right facing: Two flakes to upper base edge. Some rubbing to gilt. Wear and scratches to reverse. Kiln effect: shrinkage line along the mold join to tail feathers. Restoration of comb and wattles. Left facing: Gilt almost completely rubbed. Wear and scratches to reverse. Kiln effects: shrinkage lines along the mold join to chest and tail; shrinkage crack to underside; stained crazing to reverse. Repaired crack to base corner at front. Restored chip to base at reverse. Retouching to one side of comb. 12ins high
