Victorian, circa 1860 Pair Staffordshire russet and white spaniels sat on cobalt bases, each with a recumbent pup on the ground between their front legs. Dull gilt collar, locket and base line. Good. Some rubbing to gilt. Right facing: A few small paint losses to tail and ears. Kiln effects: firing pit to reverse of spaniel''s head; stained crazing to underside; firing line along mold join to chest. Old retouching to marking on the spaniel''s front leg. Left facing: Kiln effects: craze line to underside and another to spaniel''s face; firing crack to mold join on underside. Repaired crack to front of base (still visible on spaniel''s hind paw). Repaired crack to reverse and another along the mold join on the spaniel''s back. Restored flake to spaniel''s nose and tail. Retouching to spaniel''s ears. 7.5ins high
