Victorian, circa 1840 Pair Staffordshire russet and white water spaniels seated on an oval cobalt base. Front legs molded free. Dull gilt collar, locket and base line. Decorated all round. Painted mark to underside of right facing spaniel. Similar figure illustrated on page 111, Schiffer''s ''Staffordshire Spaniels'' by Adele Kenny. Generally good. No restoration. Rubbing to gilt. Right facing: Very minor paint loss to nose. Chip to underside. Kiln effects: shrinkage crack along the mold join to chest; small shrinkage crack and glaze miss to reverse of base; some small stray spots of brown glaze to white areas. Left facing: Minor paint loss to nose and russet markings. Kiln effects: firing hole to tail and another below right ear; shrinkage crack to chest on the mold join. 6.5ins high
