Victorian, circa 1860 Pair Staffordshire figures of hunters on horseback, each with a stag draped over the front of their horse. Three legs of each horse are molded free. Dull gilt base line and decoration to hunters and horses. Vent hole to reverse. Good. Right facing: Flakes to the horse''s face, ear, hind ankle, hunter''s nose and stag''s antlers. Small paint loss to the hunter''s hair. Very slight rubbing to gilt on antlers. Kiln effects: over glazed manufacture chip to base front; touch mark to tail, two shrinkage lines to reverse of hat. Restored flakes to the horse''s nose and right ear, stag''s right ear, hat feathers and upper base edge. Retouching to black. Left facing: Hairline to rear hoof. Flake to reverse of base. Small paint loss to the stag''s nose. Slight rubbing to the hunter''s nose. Kiln effects: shrinkage/craze line to the horse''s mane, overall crazing; piece of kiln detritus caught inside causing the piece to rattle. Restored chip to front of hat. Repaired shrinkage hairline to reverse of horse''s neck. Retouching to shoe, hair and eyes of horse and hunter. 15ins high
