Victorian, circa 1850 Pair Staffordshire figures of a hen and a cockerel/rooster. Both naturalistically decorated and standing on circular bases with blue diamond decoration and puce dashed borders. Very finely decorated all round. Vent hole inside the bases. Similar pair illustrated on page 290 ''People, Passions, Pastimes, and Pleasures Staffordshire Figures 1810-1835'' by Myrna Schkolne. Good. Hen: Tiny paint loss to tail and crest. Kiln effects: shrinkage crack to the hen''s rump and foliage. Restoration of middle toe on right foot and a repaired hairline further up the leg. Retouching to top of base and around the lower base edge. Cockerel: Slight rubbing to enamels on top of base. Kiln effect: firing crack inside the tail feathers. Restored chip to lower base edge. Repaired shrinkage crack to right ankle. Restored flake to beak tip and crest. Retouching to tail. 7.5ins high
