Victorian, circa 1880 Pair (matched) Staffordshire figures modeled as a large white eagle with outstretched wings, one clutching a lamb in it''s talons, the other a child. Crisp, detailed molding. Bright gilt decoration. Vent hole to reverse. Similar pair illustrated figure 2839/2840, page 233, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding. Good. Eagle/Lamb: Minor paint losses to ground. Gilt rubbed. Kiln effects: piece of kiln detritus underneath eagle''s right wing, and a firing hole underneath it''s left wing. Restoration to top section of left wing. Eagle/Child: No restoration. Paint losses to the rockwork and eagle''s beak. Some rubbing to gilt. Kiln effects: shrinkage crack to the eagle''s right wing (not visible from front); faint, over glazed shrinkage line to the child''s right leg. 10.75ins high
