Victorian, circa 1860 Pair Staffordshire figures of a russet and white cow standing by a stream. Milkman in front of one, milkmaid in front of the other, both holding a milking pail. Modeled on a naturalistic oval base with shredded clay decoration. All four legs of each cow are molded free. Dull gilt decoration and base line. Decorated all round. Vent hole to underside. Good. Milkman: Kiln effect: overall crazing. Repair to right arm. Repaired shrinkage crack to left arm. Restoration to hat brim. Restored chip to cow''s left horn. Retouching to the ground and shoes. Milkmaid: Flaking to hat brim and tip of cow''s left horn. A few paint losses to the ground and her underskirt. Kiln effect: overall crazing. Restored chip to underside.
