Victorian, circa 1860 Pair (possibly matched. Crazing differs between the two figures and the girl figure is slightly taller than the boy) Staffordshire figures of a young boy and girl, probably Royal children, each lying on the back of a russet and white spaniel. The spaniel is standing on an oval, naturalistic base with three legs molded free. Dull gilt decoration and base line. Vent hole to reverse of both figures and another to underside of the boy figure. Painted mark to underside of both. Similar piece illustrated figure 2244, page 146, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding. Boy: Hairline to reverse of base. Gilt almost completely rubbed. Slight rubbing to tip of spaniel''s tongue. Kiln effect: Restored chip to the boy''s right foot. Retouching to the spaniel. Girl: Slight rubbing to gilt and ground. Kiln effects: slight staining to crazing on hind leg and tail, shrinkage cracks to underside. Restored chip to spaniel''s nose and mouth. Repaired crack along the mold join to spaniel''s face and chest. Repaired crack around top of hind leg and tail. Retouching to the spaniel''s markings and the girl''s hair. 9ins high
