Victorian, circa 1860 Large Pair Staffordshire figures of Guiseppe Garibaldi and Colonel Peard. They both have one hand on their horse''s mane and hold a sword in the other hand. Title to front of bases in raised capitals read ''GARIBALDI'' and ''C. PEARD''. Shredded clay decoration underneath the front leg of each horse. Dull gilt titles and decoration. Vent hole to reverse of Garibaldi. Garibaldi: Good. Some rubbing to gilt. Repaired crack to hind right ankle of horse. Retouching to the black enamel. Peard: Generally good. No restoration. Some rubbing to gilt. Kiln effects: large, over glazed manufacture chip to right hand side of base (not visible from the front); shrinkage crack to underside, just visible on the base front and running along the lower base edge at reverse. 15.5ins high
