This charming figurine, a seated woman with a standing child and a book at her feet, is enveloped in mystery. Is this Athena teaching Daedalus? Calliope or Clio? My research of available images does not definitively answer the questions. And who produced this lovely porcelain, when? Again, I am unable to identify the mark or the age. Nonetheless, it is lovely and of reasonably good quality. Not Meissen of course. But the style suggests German origin. The last time I had one of these mystery pieces it was only much later that I learned of it's vaunted nature. The buyer got a magnificent piece at a very low price! I am filled with regret at selling that piece. This figure comes with an unremarkable wooden plinth. The condition of the figurine is excellent. No flaws that I discern.
