Exquisite antique large porcelain cherub holding a cornucopia. The base has high relief sculptured flowers decorating it with little butterflies and insects flying between the flowers. It is trimmed in gold along the base. The bottom is marked EXPOSITION DE PARIS 1878. This may have been a stand that would support a heavy bowl we can see there is a metal rod to support a heavy piece at the top of the cornucopia. We've never seen anything like this before. Pieces exhibited at the Paris Expositions in the 19th century were considered some of the finest art objects in existence at the time. This is a big beautiful antique porcelain cherub. It has an anchor mark on the bottom and other incised markings. Please click on enlargements to see detail. To the top of the cornucopia the cherub measures 13-1/4 inches. Widest width at base 7-3/4 inches. From the cherub's arrow quiver to the cherub's right hand it measures 4-1/2 inches. The condition is excellent.
