Known as Ariano di Puglia until 1930, Ariano Irpino can trace its ceramics roots back to Greco-Roman times; this, combined with Islamic influence seen ;in the work (due to the proximity of Saracen-ruled Lucera), made the region''s faience and majolica a major part of its trade in the Middle Ages.
