Antique Derby figural group of an amorous couple in Renaissance attire with applied flowers. Circa 1782-1820.Measures 9 1/2inches high.Pierced, openwork base, roughly oval in shape, with scrolls and foliage highlighted in gold on the sides. The top is naturalistically moulded in the shape of a grassy bower with wild flowers and more picked flowers in a basket. The gentleman''s shield with incredible relief mask in very rich gilding rests behind the lady''s seat. The young woman seems to be pushing aside the over-attentive youth. Both are incredibly beatifully dressed in richest fabrics - all handpainted in marvellous colours and designs. The gentleman''s suit is in gold scales offset by blue and royal red. Superb modelling, colour and detail. Behind them is a bower with attached flowers. Highest quality.Mark under base used between 1782 and 1820. General condition is excellent for a piece of this age, with only a few tiny chips/losses of applied foliage or flowers.
