A Derby Porcelain Figure of Neptune, Circa 1765 The large figure depicts Neptune ;with his body twisted standing beside a large dolphin. ;Neptune has a cape swirling around his body with flowers to one side and lined in yellow on the interior. ;His left hand is raised away from his body while his right grasps the cape. ;The dolphin is painted with green, yellow and brown scale its tail raised to envelop Neptune. ;Both Neptune and the dolphin rest upon a tall open-work hollow base, the base closed and with pad marks. The base is covered with naturalistically applied sea shell, coral and sea weed. An invisible repair has been made to the left arm.
