Victorian, circa 1870 George Jones Majolica ''Full Nest'' game pie dish and cover. The cover is molded with a partridge nestled amongst grasses and ferns, surrounded by her chicks. One chick is sat on its mother''s back, and another is tucked under her wing. Oval dish with two rustic branch handles. Decorated with scenes of rabbits grazing in foliage, surrounded by oak leaf and acorn moldings, set against a cobalt ground. Turquoise interior. Vent hole and three stilt marks to underside of cover. Mottled underside to dish with stilt marks, raised registration diamond for 27th December 1877, painted pattern number ''3371'' in reserve, and impressed ''GJ'' monogram. Similar piece in different color illustrated on front cover, ''The Collectors Encyclopedia of Majolica'' by Mariann Katz-Marks. Also illustrated figure 81, page 55, Schiffer''s ''George Jones Ceramics 1861-1951'' by Robert Cluett. Generally good. Dish: No restoration. Tight hairline where foot is joined to base. Travels 3/4 way around the foot. Almost invisible to exterior. More visible to interior. Slight wear to the cobalt ground. Kiln effect: some cobalt glaze run over the decoration. Cover: Small flake to the mother''s beak. Repair running across the cover, part of repair still visible as a tight hairline on the top. Restoration of one chick head. Two chick beaks restored. 8ins high, 13ins wide
