Coalport serving dish of shell shape, the rim with scallop moulding and leaf moulded indents, the handle moulded with the symbols of the British Union consisting of a thistle, a rose, a shamrock, and a crown, the center well painted with an exotic bird in a treeless landscape, within a wide gilt foliage border and a band of claret.

References: ref. Godden, Coalport & Coalbrookdale pl 138 for the form, outside decorated and dated 1826. This dish has an odd pattern number - 401 - which doesn't fit into the pattern book scheme, as 401 would be early 19th century; this dish is at least 10 years lat
