Chinese Famille Rose cup and saucer in the Mandarin palette, made circa 1820.Saucer is almost 5 1/4inches in diameter; cup is 2 5/8inches high.Saucer with high sloping sides, almost like a bowl (to facilitate drinking directly from the saucer as was common at the time). Profuse enamel painting covers both cup and saucer. Borders of flowers with various Chinese symbols and caligraphy enclose figural scenes: Soldiers and servants in a palace, a woman admiring the landscape view; men sitting under a tree flanking a large bowl of fish; people strolling and sitting in landscapes. Condition is very good. Considering the age and delicacy of the pieces, there is very little wear. There are 2 tiny fleabit chips on the rim of the saucer, magnified in the photos.
