Porcelain cup and saucer made in Paris, early 19th century or before, during the height of the fascination with Oriental and Egyptian motives. Saucer is 5 5/8inches accross.Cup is 2 1/4inches high.Pale lavendar background with a pattern of handpainted Palm trees and medallions encircling brightly coloured parrots. Fabulous painting and colours. Influence of China and Japan can be seen in the small plants under the Palms, while the Palms and parrots were both considered representative of the newly discovered Egyption antiquities by the French during Napoleon''s reign.Gold borders.There is some wear to the gilding, commensurate with the age, but there is no damage of any sort.
