Victorian, circa 1880 Majolica box and cover in the form of a cottage on a cobbled base. Sides and roof with bark effect. The cottage forms the box and the roof lifts off forming the cover. Two chimneys, each with a decorative hole. Ochre interior with three stilt marks and vent hole to underside of cover. Washy ochre glaze to underside of base. Generally good. Box: Flaking around the base edge and to rear corner. Slight wear to the other rear corner. Kiln effect: glaze miss to inside rim. Thin glaze around base rim. Four restored chips around the rim. Repair to ledge at front. Cover: Some flakes to roof edge and two corners. Two restored chips to flange, and another to chimney. 9.25ins wide, 6.5ins high
