Good antique French porcelain box shaped like a violin. The white ground decorated with lavender on the outside, graced with floral and foliate enamel, gilt lamberkins and raised blue enamel 'beads'. The fittings are bronze dore. And the inside also painted with floral accents. Condition is good. The top of the box is loose, the glue having dried out. Due to the fittings, the lid is secure. I would say there has been a slight deformation over time, the violin handle a tad askew. Nonetheless, a beautiful trinket box. Unsigned, the handle is impressed "Made in France", dating this piece to the late 1800's.
