What a fabulous little French faience box! Blue on blue on a white ground, the box is decorated with 'lambrequins': a floral, foliate and spiral design common to Lille and Rouen. There are as well five panels, or cartouches with scenes hand painted on each side and the top. The largest scene is on the top, a landscape with two women in the foreground, birds and clouds in the sky. On the sides, each panel is decorated with a landscape or seascape. Just delightful! Probably 19th Century.
Dimensions: 5" long, 3" front to back and 2 3/8" high.
Marks: AK in blue on the bottom.
