Early Rookwood art pottery floral bowl measuring 3" tall by 4 3/4" long and 2 3/4" wide. The piece is dated with the 2 flame kiln mark dating the piece to 1889 and is incised with "527" as the shape number and "W" for white clay. There is no cipher visible to indicate the decorator. The piece dates to the earliest days of Rookwood production when then at their Eastern Ave. plant early decorators including Albert Valentine and Rettig who would decorate wares with florals. The background color is a beautiful shade of ocre with white flowers and green leaves and stems. A really exceptional treasure for the art pottery collector.
