Victorian, circa 1875 Majolica George Jones Punch Bowl, modeled Mr Punch supporting half an orange. Holly leaves and berries are wrapped around the bowl. Turquoise interior. Mottled underside with three stilt marks, raised pattern registration diamond and pattern number painted ''3468'' in reserve inside the foot. Similar pieces illustrated on page 117,''Majolica'' by Nicholas M. Dawes; on the cover of Schiffer''s ''George Jones Ceramics 1861-1951'' by Robert Cluett; and on page 102, Abrams ''Majolica A complete History and illustrated Survey'' by Karmason & Stacke. Generally good. Kiln effects: small glaze pops to the interior and a couple to the holly leaves; marbling-like effect to ochre glaze of bowl; piece of kiln detritus caught inside causing piece to rattle; underside is not completely flat, causing the piece to wobble slightly; glaze misses to the interior and Punch''s hat; slight staining to Punch''s face. Restored crack to top of Punch''s hat, and restored chips and flakes to hat brim. Restored star-shaped hairline to bowl, and hairline to rim. Restored flake to leaf tip (by Punch''s right hand), and flake to his right shoe. Tip of left shoe restored. Pre-restoration pictures are available on request. 8.25ins high by 11.75ins wide
