Victorian, circa 1870 George Jones Majolica bowl which features two Egyptian sphinxes seated on a mottled oval base supporting a bowl with their wings and their heads. The piece bears makers marks for the George Jones pottery. Bears a pattern number, ''2714''. Similar piece illustrated in,''Majolica'' by Nicholas M. Dawes, page 32, figure 44. Good. Almost nil wear. Kiln effects: thin glaze application to the lower base edge. Repair to a section on the end of the rim. 5.7ins high, 8.7ins wide, 3.9ins depth
