Artist signed Art Pottery, Art Deco handpainted ceramic tile set in wood bookends. Made by Jean Nison early 20th century. Total height is approx 7inches and width is approx 5 1/4 inches. Tiles are 6X4 1/4inches. A pair of turquoise tiles, each handpainted with an animal - one a leopard and one a bull. Classic Art Deco design, with two strong animals shown with great elegance and movement, almost mythical qualities. Both are reminiscent of Ancient Chinese art work, both in fluidity of design, sense of movement and the ability to convey real more than immediately meets the eye. Powerful contrast of the bright yellow against the blue/turquoise. Subtle hues and shading of the animals. Each tiles is signed by the artist, renowned ceramicist, Jean Nison. Condition is good. No chips/cracks/damage. There is typical crazing, which one would expect, but no damage/restorations.
