This is a superb Late 18th / early 19th century large elegant Armorial family crested blue & white Fitzhugh Chinese export chestnut basket with its original gilt Armorial decorated porcelain pierced stand. This finely painted chinese export chestnut basket and stand in the ''blue fitzhugh'' pattern with the arms of Brodie in the center of each piece in enamels and original gilt decoration against blue enamel and gilt drapery. According to D.S. Howard, CAPI, p. 535, probably made for James Brodie, stationed at Madras with the East India Company. There is some of this related family pieces in the collection at Brodie Castle, Nairn, now property of the National Trust of Scotland.
