Artist: Gros, Mario
About The Poster: Purchased in Italy recently, I have tried to find information about this vermouth but have been unsuccessful so far (I'll keep looking!!). This poster is linen backed. We think it would look great in a bar, restaurant, or given the visuals, even a child's room!
About the artist (translated from Italian, Wikipedia): Mario Gros began as a young apprentice engraver. At the same time he attended the Accademia Albertina in Turin, where he studied painting with John Guarlotti and Romolo Bernardi. He designed comics and billboards, then ran a printing company, and designed the poster for the Italian version of the movie "The Singing Fool" (Il Cantate Pazzo) starring Al Jonson, whose "The Jazz Singer" was the first American film with sound.
In 1925 he founded, with two friends, the "Gros, Monti & C." design firm based in Turin. The firm prospered and by 1942 had produced advertisements for Fiat, Berg, the municipality of Turin, Cora Vermouth and the "Gazetta del popolo".
Gros received numerous awards during his career. He was also elected member of the "Chambre du commerce Europeene" and was also a member of the "Istituto Superiore di Cultura Grafica di Torino". Gros died in San Remo, Italy, in 1977.
