About The Poster: This oversized poster issued in France for a Laurel and Hardy film called (in French) Sans Souci.
Laurel and Hardy were – for a time - the best known comedy duet in film. With a filmography of over 100 films, and classic skits which continue to entertain, their films harken back to a simpler time when Hollywood was young and audiences were naïve and easily entertained.
A number of their films were re-shot with Laurel and Hardy talking in Spanish, Italian, French or German. The plots for these films were similar to the English language version although the supporting cast were often native language actors. Laurel and Hardy could not speak a foreign language and they received voice coaching to reproduce their lines. Pardon Us (1931) was re-shot in all four foreign languages. Blotto (1930), Chickens Come Home (1931) and Below Zero (1930) had French and Spanish versions.
This poster has most likely been folded for the last 50+ years. It is in good shape but has definite fold lines and some minor tearing. It will frame up beautifully and is a spectacular tribute to film, to the staying power of two classic comedians and to poster art. We love it and just acquired it in France.
