ANT-475 Pair of Art Deco Antique Polychrome Wall Sconces from the Victorian Line by Gill
Gill was a bit of an Art Deco rebel. He did not like angular Art Deco lines. He actually wrote papers criticizing the departure from traditional Victorian/Edwardian lines to what he considered a lazy design with straight lines. (Courtesy of Kelly Art Deco Light Museum)
So...here we have a pair of his sconces that in his catalog, circa 1935, were actually named the Victorian Line. You can see some great pictures on page 312, in Book I, Lighting Fixtures of the Depression Era by Jo Ann Thomas. While there are mistakes in her books...the catalog pages are still neat to see.
The condition of these Gill sconces is simply wonderful. The ORIGINAL polychrome colors are just that...original...and only so gently cleaned up. They are really GOOD!! The shades are amber in color, and in very respectable condition. Don't like where Gill Co. put the mold separation of the shade...right down the center...but that is original too...so not much we can do about it. Still, a remarkable conditioned pair of truly antique...near-mint condition...Gill sconces.
We have rewired these sconces to UL standards with new sockets in our UL shop. Each sconce has a rotary switch. So,these are ready to hang with a standard light mounting kit which we will supply.
Measurements:
•Height: 10 5/8"
•Width: 5 ½"
•Projection: 6 ½" from the wall into the room.
The lights have been rewired with standard household medium base E26 sockets, which can use either incandescent, compact fluorescent or LED light bulbs. If using incandescent bulbs, we recommend using no more than 60 - 65 watts to protect the fragile antique shades from excessive heat.
Price: $935.00 for the pair with their original shades, plus $25.00 for Ground Shipping within the contiguous 48 states.
