This is an incredible antique Egyptian Revival figural brass gas newel post lamp, with its original chimney, dating from the 1880’s. The base of the lamp begins with a baluster-shaped section, extending up into an elliptical piece, which is encircled by bands and grooves, and which features four remarkable, finely cast pharaohs’ heads, complete with their fantastic headdresses. The lamp continues up in a pole, with four intricate foliate designs coming down to meet the Egyptian figures. The pole is encircled by a brass, tulip-shaped globe, and continues up to the shade holder. The lamp has an acid-etched, bowl-shaped shade, inside which rests the lamp’s original cylindrical chimney. The chimney is signed “Schott & Gen., Jena.†Schott & Genossen, according to the company’s website, was established in 1884 in Jena, Germany, and has made significant contributions to the development of glass technology. The lamp is in excellent condition and has not been wired for electricity. The chimney and the shade are also in excellent condition with no cracks or breaks, just the expected fleabites around the rims. This newel post light measures 42†tall (35†without chimney) and 8†wide.
