This is a fabulous antique four-light brass transitional Arts and Crafts chandelier, originally half gas and half electric, now all wired for electricity. This chandelier, circa 1900, features amazing original acid-etched and hand-cut shades. The fixture begins with a square canopy, coming down in a pole to the chandelier body. The top of the body is a square urn shape, ornamented with an intricate egg-and-dart pattern. The urn shape is followed by a smooth, squared section, which angles out at the bottom, displaying a repetition of the egg-and-dart detail, and slants back in to finish in an acorn finial, which is accented at its base by a tiny ball. The chandelier arms, formed of graceful volutes, are fastened with small cubes to the lower portion of the chandelier body. The original electric lights are on opposite sides of the chandelier; they feature fabulous round shades with a wheel-cut starburst encircled by an acid-etched laurel wreath, looped in ribbon and accented above by bell-flower garlands. Between each starburst is an intricately etched torch. The other two sides of the chandelier were originally gas, now converted to electricity. Each volute arm arcs down, catching a rectangular gas key, and comes back up to accept an understated bobeche. This chandelier would be a splendid addition to any Craftsman Bungalow or a Prairie home. The light fixture is in excellent condition, and the shades are also in excellent condition with no cracks or breaks, just the expected fleabites around the rims. The chandelier has been professionally rewired and comes with all the necessary attachments for modern installation. It measures 23” at its widest, has a body 16 ½” tall, and is 36” long overall.
