This is an amazing set of antique Georgian gilded door plates with matching handles, dating from the 18th or 19th Century. These came from Sam Fleming’s mansion, Boxwood, in Nashville; they were originally from Europe. This superbly cast gilt set features an intricate design, beginning at the top with a pineapple, which symbolizes hospitality, followed by an elaborate design of leaves and berries, which crisscross the plate. The opening for the handle is surrounded by foliate detail and a beautiful torsade pattern. Each handle features a beautifully cast lily, followed by leaves and berries; the end of each handle is wrapped in an acanthus leaf. This set is in excellent condition. Each plate measures 2 ¼†wide and 12 ½†long, and the handles are 4 1/8†long.
