Set of Four fluted Champagnes, Waterford Crystal 'Lismore' Pattern, H:7 1/4". Waterford Crystal is a trademark brand of crystal glassware produced in Waterford, Ireland, by the company Waterford Wedgwood , previously trading as Waterford Glass Ltd. The crystal business was originally founded in the city in 1783 by George and William Penrose; the production was of extremely fine crystal that became world-renowned. Financial difficulties caused their company to close, due to excessive taxation of the product. Later in 1947, Czech immigrant Charles Bacik, grandfather of Irish senator Ivana Bacik, established a glass works in the city, due to the superb reputation of the original glassware and by the early 1950s it had been taken over as a subsidiary of the Irish Glass Bottle company. Waterford Crystal Glass Group Limited is currently a member of Waterford/ Wedgwood, formed through the acquisition by the famous pottery manufacturer Josiah Wedgwood in 1986. The Waterford Glass Crystal is a fine cut and elegant look and quality. The main factory in Kilbarry, Waterford City, today has tours of the factory, a gift store and it is a historical place to visit.
