Vintage crystal bowl ashtray - very heavy, and a large size at 16.5 cm diameter and 5 cm high (6.1/2 inches by 2 inches). Beautiful work, with large square starburst underneath and star hobnail and other designs on the curving sides. There are four shallow areas where the cigarettes are to rest - one of these has a curved chip. (The last photo is an extreme close-up of the chip).
Because of the busy pattern, it could pass as a bowl for floating flowers or similar. Apart from the chip described, it is in excellent condition. Probably mid 20th century or earlier.
