Risler Carre, a very well known and highly regarded Parisian silversmith, produced some fabulous French Empire piece is the mid-1800s. This wheel cut crystal casket, encased and lidded in sterling silver covered with 18 carat gold is a fine example from this period. Napoleonic laurel wreaths alternate with stylized swans spanning the crystal. The edges are finely decorated with laurel borders. The lid also incorporates a stiff leaf border. The finial, handle is mounted with acanthus leaf designs. The base is deeply cut with a star-burst pattern to reflect light.
Dimensions: 3 7/8" diameter, 4 1/2" high including the lid and finial, 2 1/2" high without the lid.
Marks: both lid and body are marked with the minerve French silver standard guarantee and the maker's mark for Risler Carre. The base is also stamped Risler Carre.
Condition: mild signs or use; some wear to the gold and a couple of scratches on the crystal. These imperfections are minor.
