For Sale is a lovely vase made by Thomas Webb & Sons of Amblecote near Stourbridge, England. This shape is a Flower Form or Floriform known as a Jack in the Pulpit Vase. The Vase has some size to it as it stands 10 7/8" tall. The face has a diameter of 5 3/4" and the foot has a diameter of 2 7/8".
This Flower Form shows three colors. It has a Cranberry with white opalescence Face blown into a clear green base glass. It sits on a round foot that is also a clear green in color. There is a clear green stem that rises up from the round foot and meet the cranberry glass about half way up the stem. The face of the Pulpit has an outstanding Ruffled border with the top and bottom of the face displaying pulled points. The Cranberry Stem that rises up from the clear green stem from the foot has very vertical fine ribbing. The white opalescence on the back side outer edges give this beautiful piece of Art Glass its added appeal.
The Vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. This vase is made the same way and has the same quality level of L.C.T. Tiffany Favrile and Steuben Glass. This piece of art glass predates these two outstanding American Glass Houses. The vase is unsigned and it displays a rough Pontil. This Vase is very clean inside and out and it is quite light in weight. It is extremely delicate and it is amazing that this has survived over 130 years without any damage. It shows very little signs of use. The outer bottom border shows minor scratches. It appears to have been a Cabinet piece most if not all of its life.
This is a lovely flower form vase that is not so commonly found. It was made during the Victorian era and I'm quite sure it influenced both Tiffany and Steuben Glass houses in America into making their own. This style of vase was made to resemble the Jack in the Pulpit Flower. This wonder vase was made, Circa 1870-1885.
