For sale is a beautiful piece of Art Glass made by The Imperial Glass Company of Bellaire, Ohio. The item is a Vase and it is done in Imperial's highly sought after "Heart and Vine" Decor. This Decorated Art Glass Vase was part of Imperial's "Freehand" Line of Art Glass. The Vase is a good size as it stands 6" tall and is 6 1/2" in diameter. The mouth or opening is 4" in diameter outside measurement with approximately a 2 1/2" inside opening.
The Vase displays a very beautiful Heart and Vine Decor. The Vines and Hearts are done in a Blue Art Glass. This pattern is set against a background of Cantaloupe colored Iridescent glass. The Hearts all sit in a vertical (north to south) fashion with the Vines running both vertical and horizontal. The neck rises up from the top of the shoulder and ever so gracefully flares outwards. The top lip is accented with a deep Blue fire polished art glass rim. This top lip was executed with perfection. The shape is quite unique as well. I would describe this as a Wide Mouth Squat Tapered Shoulder Vase. The iridescence is brilliant throughout the piece. The deep Orange/Red Fuchsia iridescence along the neck is just outstanding!!
The Vase is considered to be in Excellent Condition as there are no chips, cracks, nicks or dings. There are a few areas on the exterior of the vase that have some scratches and missing iridescence. These are rather minor and I pictured the worst one. This was quite common for this color. My camera is 10X zoom and it appears much larger than it really is. The bottom of the vessel shows normal age wear on the high spots on the bottom. The Vase is signed on the bottom with Imperial's Clover Shaped Paper Label that reads "FREE HAND" on the top with "Made in U.S.A." on the bottom along with the "Imperial Cross" and lettering in the 4 sections of the cross.
This is a Very Nice Decorated Art Glass Vase by Imperial. To find this with its original Paper Label is quite Rare and a real bonus to have on the bottom of this Vase.
Imperial Glass Company tried to lure Steuben Aurene and Tiffany Favrile Glass blowers into their shop with enticing employment offers. Some of these workers migrated to Imperial Glass. Imperial Glass was most noted for their Carnival Glass Production. The Free Hand Line of Art Glass was produced for only 3 years from 1923-1925. These are Glass Vases are some of the rarest and hardest to find because of such a short production span. These are much Rarer to Find than Tiffany, Steuben, Durand and Quezal. All of these companies produced Art Glass for a much longer period with Durand being the closest with only 7 years of producing Art Glass. I'm quite sure the buyer with be quite pleased with their purchase.
This Vase was made Circa 1923-1925.
