A couple of slight nibbles on base easily polished out

8 inches (cm) width X 7 inches (cm) height approx

Very stylised Art Deco figure, quality made and heavy
Most of his works are unsigned (as this is) however there is what looks like an S or 5 on the Centeurs back. Viewing is welcome - London NW6, by appointment

These extremely rare Sculptures rarely come onto the market; the only other one that I can find that has been on the market in recent years sold at the Glass Exhibition 2 years ago (price unknown and it was a complete lamp). The Glass Museum is supposed to be rewriting the list of actual pieces designed by Gilbert based on an archived list that they have discovered; they have confirmed that this design was certainly one of his. When this information finally gets released prices quite rightly will sharply increase. This has to be a rare opportunity to purchase a work from this important artist, a must for any lover of Art Deco.

Walter Gilbert was cousin to the famous Albert Gilbert RA who similarly has created many famous landmark pieces including the Statue of Eros in Piccadilly Circus, London
